Daniel Astorga

Daniel Astorga is a first-year student in the Master of Health Administration program at the University of New Mexico. He is seeking a concentration is hospital and clinic administration. His focus is in healthcare pertains to quality, compliance, business management, health analytics and operations improvement. Daniel is currently a member of the New Mexico Healthcare Executives, Student Association for Healthcare Administration, and a volunteer for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.

Daniel currently works as a Clinical Quality & Compliance Specialist for the UNM Medical Group. His role in the organization includes maintaining national accreditations, project management, program evaluation, healthcare analytics, credentialing and privileging, licensure and certification management, as well as other facets of quality and compliance.

Daniel obtained a dual degree in Biology and Psychology with a minor in Chemistry from UNM in 2015. He has certifications in OSHA, healthcare improvement, mental health first aid, CPR and others. Daniel is set to Graduate in the Spring of 2018 with a Master of Health Administration. He plans to pursue a fellowship to further develop his skills in healthcare administration and bridge his Master’s program to the workforce.

Clinical Analyst, University of New Mexico Hospital

Stetson joined ACHE in 2016 and has been active in the Programs and Communication Committees for NMHE.  He works at UNMH, the state’s trauma hospital out of Albuquerque, NM, specializing in Information Technology. His main role is to ensure the inpatient and outpatient pharmacy has functional computers, robots, and servers as well as supports the electronic medical record.  Stetson was one of the first individuals in the state to complete the Basics in Addiction counseling program with UNM, in addition to being certified to give Cognitive Enhancement Therapy (CET) to those who suffer schizophrenia.  He became interested in mental health when he started volunteering for Agora Crisis Center.  Being passionate about people in need of help and his love for passing on his knowledge to new volunteers, he still helps train, mentor new volunteers, and run their IT department 8 years later.  On occasion, you may find him lecturing at city events to help teach new behavioral health and social workers empathy awareness to aid in the treatment of high-risk populations.  In the past Stetson has also has done research for the MIND research network here in Albuquerque, and presented his finding at an international psychophysiology conference. 

Stetson received his bachelors from the University of New Mexico in counseling psychology with a focus in substance abuse therapy and a minor in human development and behavior.  He is currently pursuing an MHA from UNM and anticipates graduation in spring of 2018.

Hiking, rollercoasters, eating, dancing, video games, and snorkeling are some of his favorite things when he is not engaged at work or in the community
